From:
Justin Cook I ftp'd up a version of Driven with a one-take, second attempt with the traditional drum-heavy mix as folks are wont to do at this end. Tell me what works, what doesn't. Oh, there was some dithering badness in transition from 16- to 24- and back to 16-bit in the recording, so that's why your trax are particularly distorted. Saaaaahrrreeee. My take: this song is all about the chorus, and I'm not sure what I should do in it, but I do like the ride (my ride especially) in the mix and I think having a Stevie Wonderesque inverted swing pattern works well to give it a little spring in its step (although I'm pretty much on top of the beat during the first run of the chorus, and I never really slam-dunked the feel on the second). The end of the second chorus is not what I my brain was telling my hands to do, but we'll work on that from this end. Lemme know. J *** back to the sundial archives.... home/news
